Lakes

During the last centuries the lakes have passed through major changes. One of the main reasons is of course the influx of nutrients that has increased the amount of planktonic algae and distorted the balance between algae, zooplankton, and fish. But also the deliberate stocking of exotic species, e.g. the grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella), has deteriorated the environmental quality of lakes throughout Europe.

WaterFrame can offer professional assistance for:

  • Standardised monitoring programmes.
  • Species composition and density of the invertebrates and the aquatic flora (macrophytes and phytoplankton).
  • Species composition, density and age structure of the fish community.
  • Lake restoration, for example by means of biomanipulation (i.e. mass-removal of zooplanktivore fish species and active stock enhancement of predatory fish).

  • Compilation and reporting of available data.

Furthermore, WaterFrame can offer consultative services at specific cases, tailor-made solutions to match the requirements of our clients.
